WHY:
  • Focus on changing the school climate to be more inclusive, reduce impediments and sustain programs that boost student achievement for all students as well as those with intellectual disabilities
  • Provide support and methods to improve the quality of life for students and families in the school community
  • Establish a collaborative group to change school climate to create schools of inclusion, respect, and human dignity for all students in the school
WHO: 
  • General Education Students, Special Education Students, Administrators, Councilors from Project Unify Schools:
  • Everett, Eastern, Sexton, Gardner, Otto, Elmhurst, Kendon, Cumberland, and Forestview
  • Adapted Physical Education Staff
  • LSD Cabinet Members and Administrators
  • Special Olympics Michigan CEO and/or staff
  • Community Members and Parents
  • Media
WHAT:
  • Video presentation of Lansing School District Project Unify activities
  • Short presentations by LSD Gen. Ed. And Spec. Ed. Staff
  • Short presentations by LSD Gen. Ed. And Spec. Ed. Students
  • Project Unify Play enacted by members of each schools Youth Action Committee
  • Speaker: about bullying, inclusion, and creating a positive school climate
  • All attendees will sign an "End the Word" banner that would be presented to the LSD board at a meeting and could hang in the Administration building for the month of March.
  • All attendees will receive a small token of appreciation to acknowledge their participation in the rally
PROVIDED:
  • Transportation
  • Snack
  • Informational materials for staff, administrators, and community members
OTHER:
  • Anticipate between 750 and 800 participants
  • Local Media personality to be the Master of Ceremonies
  • Each school will be allotted a certain number of attendees
  • Oversight of the event will be conducted by the Adapted Physical Education Department: Anne Goudie, Meredith DiMaria, Allison Wonch, and Mark Hayes.

    • Break into three groups for activities and speakers
