Step Forward for Special Olympics Michigan
Take strides for yourself and Special Olympics athletes during the Miles for Medals Run/Walk in Cadillac. The event runs from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. on May 9 at the Rotary Performing Arts Pavilion on South Lake Street in Cadillac. MORE
Spartan Stores Healthy Athlete of the Year featured on new Apple Juice Bottle debuting in May!
In recognition of being named Spartan Stores Healthy Athlete of the Year in 2008, Keir Mallory from Muskegon Heights is featured on the label of Spartan Apple Juice, beginning in May. Keir became a Special Olympics Michigan athlete 27 years ago and has competed in basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer and downhill skiing. At this year’s Summer Games he is going to compete in horseshoes for the first time. MORE
CMU Class Project Strikes Big for SOMI
Six students from a recreation class (RPL 320) at CMU raised more than $1,800 for Special Olympics Michigan.
Kelly McClure, Eric Ruthkoski, Nick Lahay, Dan McKisson, Tim Wagner and Rick Droski planned and carried out a bowling event at U-Lanes Saturday, March 28 from 3-9 p.m. MORE
Everett Athletes Competes in Basketball Finals
“I was a different person before Special Olympics,” Kim Shepard, an Everett athlete said. Shepard competed in the 2009 State Basketball Finals in Grandville March 27-29.
“Before I joined Special Olympics I was a lot angrier and after I just feel like a different person, I changed a lot,” he said. MORE |

Spartan Stores, through its neighborhood supermarkets, begins the sale of Special Olympics Michigan medallions starting May 3 through May 23, 2009. The funds raised from the sale support the State Summer Games in Michigan. The medallions can be purchased for $1.00 at D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare Supermarkets, Felpausch, Glen’s Markets, VG’s and independent stores throughout Michigan. LEARN MORE |
