Special Olympics Michigan World’s Largest Truck Convoy

Gloomy weather didn’t dampen the spirits of participants in the World’s Largest Truck Convoy (WLTC) on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009. Three convoys in Michigan joined with others across the United States and Canada.
The number of truck drivers doubled from last year’s convoy. For some drivers, it was their second or third time participating in the event. MORE

“Lift for Athletes” is a display of strength, determination and heart. “Miles for Medals” takes steps to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Michigan athletes in your community! Join us at one of two fun, fitness fundraisers on one day, for Special Olympics Michigan. Money raised will help fund year-round athletic training and competition for more than 250 children and adults with intellectual abilities in the Grand Traverse Region. MORE
Bark-a-bout Special Olympics Dog Expo Set For This Weekend In Shelby Township

From beagles to German shepherds, cocker spaniels to Great Danes, all types of canines are welcome for the Bark-A-Bout dog expo. The expo is on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bark-A-Bout, located on 23 mile road in Shelby Township, of Wayne County, Mich. All proceeds set to help out local Special Olympics Michigan athletes. MORE
Special Olympics Michigan set to have Presentation at Plachta Auditorium

As part of Disability Awareness Month on the campus of Central Michigan University (CMU), Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) plans to have a presentation on Monday Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Plachta auditorium entitled, “Spread the Word to End the “R” word.”
The presentation will feature a panel of SOMI athletes from the mid-Michigan area who plan to speak about how offensive and hurtful the use of this word is. The panel of athletes includes, Michelle Trombley, David “Big Daddy” Peterson and Carla McNerney, all from area 7. Connie Florian from area 4 will be on the panel as well. MORE
