Law Enforcement Torch Run® Central Route
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) of Michigan celebrates its 28th anniversary on Monday, September 14th, as it kicks off its 750 mile non-stop relay run from the Top of Michigan to the bottom of the Thumb. The run begins in Copper Harbor, the northern most city in Michigan, and finishes five days later in the metro-Detroit city of Sterling Heights.
The 750 mile non-stop relay consists of three run teams, Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC), and Michigan State Police (MSP). These dedicated runners have been raising money throughout the year to participate in this prestigious event.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) has over 85,000 law enforcement officers involved world wide and has raised over $272 million dollars in the 28 years that it has supported Special Olympics. The money Michigan’s LETR raises ($350,000 in 2008) benefits over 17,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities.
