Clear skies will greet the Water Warriors as they set off for the 19th Annual Water Warriors Endurance Ride at Mackinaw City

Marina Monday, July 20.  The Water Warriors travel more than 350 miles on a personal watercraft on a five day endurance ride to help support the athletes of Special Olympics Michigan.

The water is not the only place you can find a Water Warrior.  The Water Warriors rely a great deal on their land support crew to ensure the ride goes smoothly.  “Behind the scenes it is people like Wayne Persons who make the Water Warriors endurance ride work,” said Ann Plegue of the Water Warriors.  “He works very hard all week long and does so with nothing less than a smile.” MORE

Athlete Spotlight: Curtis Castle Curtis Castle
Going above and beyond is what Special Olympics Michigan athlete Curtis Castle is all about. Castle, an Area 12 athlete from Dennison, definitely does it all.

Curtis competes in poly hockey, basketball, team handball, softball, soccer and cross-country skiing. His area director, Mark Dalman describes him as the “ultimate athlete” because he will occasionally rollerblade 6-8 miles to practice, work hard at practice, and then rollerblade right back home! About 30 athletes from Area 23 walked in the 4th of July Parade in Plymouth and the crowd cheered them on the entire length of the route!
