Special Olympics Michigan Bowler, Whose Average Is Double President Obama’s, To Take Part In An Exhibition Game
President Barack Obama was bowled over by his talent! Now, Special Olympics Michigan competitor Kolan McConiughey will showcase his skills when he bowls an exhibition game with Pro Bowler Doug Spicer from Ann Arbor. The exhibition game will take place during the 37th annual Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games May 28-30, on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. MORE

2009 State Summer Games!
After months of intense training, Special Olympics Michigan athletes from around the state are looking forward to showcasing their skills and competing at the State Summer Games May 28 to May 30 at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. Events are open to the public and admission is free. Competition and General Event Schedules are now available for download.
Capitol Ceremony Kick-Off for State Summer Games
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) will be gathering on the steps of the Capitol Building in Lansing on May 28 at 10:00 a.m. for the annual lighting of the "Flame of Hope". This occasion signifies the beginning of the largest Special Olympics Michigan event - the State Summer Games at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant May 28-30. MORE
SuperStars Event Raises $15,000 for SOMI Athletes
The 31st annual SuperStars competition took place Sunday, May 17 at the Michigan State Fair Grounds in Detroit. The annual fundraiser benefits Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) athletes in Southeast Michigan. Local celebrities and corporate sponsors along with SOMI athletes and coaches came together to form SuperStars teams. Each team competed in three events: sports relay, scooter relay and skills competition. Thank you to everyone who participated! Together you helped raise nearly $15,000 for Special Olympics Michigan athletes!
Medallions On Sale Now to Support SOMI Summer Games
Spartan Stores, through its neighborhood supermarkets, begins the sale of Special Olympics Michigan medallions starting May 3 through May 23, 2009. The funds raised from the sale support the State Summer Games in Michigan. The medallions can be purchased for $1.00 at Spartan owned or supplied stores throughout Michigan including D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare Supermarkets, Felpausch, Glen’s Markets, and VG’s. Customers sign their name on the medallion and it is displayed in the stores. LEARN MORE
CMU staff and faculty members raise more than $15,000 for Special Olympics Michigan
A friendly competition on Central Michigan University’s campus ended with everyone a winner.
The Finance and Administrative Services division went up against the Academic division to see who could raise the most money for Special Olympics Michigan athletes through icon sales. Collectively, the teams raised $15,644.51. However, the FAS team took home the traveling trophy this year for bringing in $10,876.66.

SOMI Receives $2,500 Grant from the Detroit Tigers Foundation
Special Olympics Michigan Inc. received a grant of $2,500 from the Detroit Tigers Foundation. The money will be used to send 98 Special Olympics Michigan athletes from the Metro Detroit area in the Southeast Region to the State summer Sports Classic July 17 and 18 in Canton and Ypsilanti. MORE |
