 State Summer Games May 28-30 in Mt. Pleasant. Be a Fan in the Stands!

| May 27, 2009 More than 45 uniformed police officers and law enforcement professionals will gather on the steps of the Capitol Building in Lansing Thursday at 10 a.m. for the annual Michigan Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Capitol Ceremony kick-off to State Summer Games. The officers will light the “Flame of Hope” and embark on a 9-hour relay run to Mt. Pleasant. More than 100 Special Olympics athletes on their way to the State Summer Games will join the officers for the ceremony. MORE
Join us for State Summer Games May 28-30 on the campus of CMU in Mt. Pleasant as nearly 2,500 SOMI athletes from around the state show off their skills in eleven different types of competition including aquatics, bocce, bowling, gymnastics, horseshoes, power lifting, weightlifting, team handball, volleyball, developmental athletics and motor activities training program. The “Guardians of the Flame” have an electrifying event planned for Thursday! 
A moment of silence during Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games Opening Ceremonies will honor and pay tribute to Mark ‘The Bird” Fidrych, who passed away earlier this year. Mark was the unofficial spokesman for the Wertz Warriors for 15 years. Their fundraising efforts across the state, including an annual 900 mile snowmobile ride, have raised more than $7.2 million for Special Olympics Michigan. This year we honor Mark’s passion, dedication and incredible contributions to athletes.
