Special Olympics Michigan(SOMI) is thrilled to announce the return of State Fall Games, an event that brings together athletes, Unified partners, coaches, and chaperones from across the state to celebrate sportsmanship, teamwork, and the pursuit of a more unified world. The 2024 State Fall Games – happening Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28 – will feature golf, kayaking, cycling, and soccer competition, showcasing the dedication and talent of SOMI athletes.
State Fall Games will be the largest in the history of the event with a record-breaking delegation of more than 1,200. This number includes nearly 850 athletes, 100 Unified partners, 150 coaches, and 150 chaperones, all coming together to make this 2-day event a celebration in the push for a more inclusive world.
One of the highlights of this year’s games is the opportunity to qualify for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Soccer finals will serve as a selection event for one 5-a-side soccer team that will represent Michigan at the 2026 USA Games in Minneapolis.
“We are incredibly excited to see our athletes back in action with such strong participation,” said Nick Caudle, SOMI’s Sr. Manager of Sports Training. “Fall Games not only highlight the skill of our athletes but also serve as a stepping stone towards future national competitions. We are proud to provide a platform where athletes can showcase their abilities and achieve new milestones.”
In addition to quality sports competition, participants will also have the opportunity to take part in FUNFitness, a Healthy Athletes discipline based on physical therapy aimed at improving strength, flexibility, and balance.
