2020 State Finals: Cancelled
As Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) and its local programs across the state continue to navigate a gradual return to activities, the organization has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 State Poly Hockey and Unified Bowling Finals. The event, originally planned for November in the greater Lansing area, typically hosts more than 1,100 athletes, coaches and chaperones from nearly every county in Michigan.
Poly hockey and bowling fall within a high risk category due to the nature of their sports. With the safety of SOMI’s athletes, volunteers and spectators in mind, holding a large-scale, in-person event at this time is not feasible. While this decision is disappointing, SOMI is currently offering various smaller-scale, in-person training opportunities for its athletes in addition to various virtual, at-home training options.
