Bottle Drive benefiting SOMI

Bottles piling up? The final Law Enforcement Torch Run bottle drive takes place June 10 at various cities across Michigan. Proceeds from the bottle drive benefit Special Olympics Michigan.

Events postponed through June 30, Virtual Summer Games planned for July

All in-person SOMI events have been postponed through June 30. A Virtual State Summer Games is being planned for the week of July 20 with more details to come on this event in the near future.

State Summer Games Postponed

Due to concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus, Special Olympics Michigan has made the decision to extend its postponement of in-person events through May 31. This postponement includes the 2020 State Summer Games, originally scheduled for May 28-30 at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant.

Eric Lemmon: Cancer survivor, marathon runner

Eric Lemmon’s first cross-country skiing practice in 2018 didn’t go as planned. Halfway through his first race, he collapsed. Eric wasn’t sure what had happened, but he knew something wasn’t quite right.

SOMI events postponed through May 15

Due to concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus, and from the Guidance of Special Olympics International (SOI) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Special Olympics Michigan has made the decision to extend its postponement of in-person events through May 15, 2020.

This includes all sport, training and competition activities as well as all in-person fundraising events.

Remaining Polar Plunges of season postponed

Due to concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus, Special Olympics Michigan has made the difficult decision to postpone its final three Polar Plunge events of the season that were scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 14 in Manistee, Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie.

While this news is incredibly disappointing for all of us, the health and safety of our participants, spectators, volunteers, staff, and partners remains our top priority. It is our hope that these Polar Plunges may be able to be rescheduled at a later date.

State Basketball Finals Cancelled, SOMI events suspended until March 31

Due to concerns related to the spread of the coronavirus, and from the Guidance of Special Olympics International, Special Olympics Michigan has made the difficult decision to cancel the State Basketball Finals and suspend all events through March 31, 2020.

Basketball teams earn district titles

District basketball tournaments played out in Caledonia, Mt. Pleasant, Northville and Saline on Saturday, March 7. To find out which teams captured District titles, visit the District Basketball Finals page.

 

Red Wings team with SOMI for Hockeytown Cares Night

Be a part of a fun night with the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, March 10 as they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Hockeytown Cares Night! Discounted tickets range from $29-$59/ticket with $5 from each ticket purchased going back to SOMI. Plus, if SOMI gets the largest group of attendees at the game, you can be part of a group pic with Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin!

BIGGBY Round Up Campaign runs Feb. 17-23

We're proud to partner with BIGGBY Coffee for a week-long round up campaign supporting inclusion. From February 17-23, visit any BIGGBY location in Michigan and choose to round up your order to support Special Olympics Michigan athletes.

In addition, BIGGBY is also promoting its Polar Bear Latte (white chocolate and hazelnut) during this time with proceeds benefiting SOMI.
